Dear friends/comrades,

I was browsing the Web today about homelessness and the anti-camping ordinance that is enforced heavily in Sacramento. I found a few interesting articles and blogs, including Mayor Johnson’s blog post from close to 2 years ago. Nothing has changed despite his rather optimistic view on working with Safe Ground. I want to know what the hell happened….was it the arena? Was it his disdain for seeing smelly/dirty street walkers or was it his personal agenda getting in the way of his service to the community?

Whatever the reason, I am done with the excuses and lies of this man. My comrades and homeless friends should not have to wait months and months and close to years in some cases to get into a shelter. I am also fascinated by Sac Steps Forward–that reported giving 150 sleeping bags out at last June’s Homeless Connect. I want to know what is going on and why this camping ordinance still exists? I want to know now, before I no longer have the right to rally and protest in the streets that are becoming less and less public domain due to this ordinance and other laws limiting First Amendment rights.

Tonight, I will begin a campaign being formed against the anti-camping ordiance that limits free speech and the ability to live without a home. I will speak out tonight at 6PM at the City of Sacramento’s council meeting.

Occupy Sacramento will also be taking action May 11 in response to the hypocricy on this ordinance in the city of Sacramento (more info on this event will be available next week at www.occupysac.com). Please join me and the effort to end the stupidity and inhumane treatment of people. We all deserve the right to speak out and live. Thank you and please forward this on to comrades.
