Policy & Planning Committee

Postby Nathan » Tue Dec 20, 2023 4:02 pm

Hello all, I'm proposing a new "Policy & Planning Committee" that will have open discussion about the long-term goals of OS, strategy and tactics needed to acheive them, and the logistical support required. We will also look at ways to increase donations and volunteer support, update the wish list, and get the storage/equipment/power situation straightened out. :D

This Committee Will:
*Propose new resolutions to the GA
*Organize and implement existing policies
*Help plan and implement strategy and logistics

Meetings will be held regularly, but in-person attendance is not required, since much of the work will be done online/offsite.

I announced this intention at the GA on 12/10, and I now have 2 fellow volunteers who have agreed to join this committee, thanks Red and Elizabeth! 8-) However I haven't made a final/formal proposal to the GA, and would appreciate any feedback here!

(Also note, I have been unable to reach the Resolutions Cmte, so I'm thinking our new group could kind of replace that one too.)

Looks good Nathan. I would suggest:

- take the 'logistics' thing out of there. I like the focus of this committee as handling foundational things and general strategy. Logistics is a materials handling matter and ought have its own committee (actually, I believe Sea is trying to pull something like that together.)

- I'd add a generic to the description, something like "review all foundational and strategic materials for Occupy and advise and make recommendations to the GA on matters of general concern. This will imply including things like Resolutions, By-laws, Principles & declarations and any other general materials that come down the pike. It will also give GA a place to refer questions/needs for reivew that are related to any foundational stuff.

that's it - I'm hoping by spring there will be 10 or more people in the Committee and we can take a serious, perhaps imaginative, look at things like our future mode of operation and our principles and occupying strategy. One area that particularly interests me is how Occupy can help facilitate/encourage the formation of a separate progressive political organization in Sacramento to consider taking our local government back and offering 99% candidates to replace the gang we have. As far as I can tell, such a critter is non-existent at the moment. I think that would properly be a topic for this committee as well.
