Thursday, December 8, 2024 6:00 p.m. PST
Location: Cesar Chavez Plaza

Facilitator: Tiffany
Stack Taker: Joel
Minutes: Michele
In Tree: Joe

OS = OccupySacramento
F = Facilitator
P = Proposer
R = Reporter (for report back from committee or working group)
PoP = Point of Process
PoI = Point of Information
CQ = Clarifying Question

1. Facilitation
1.1 Welcome
1.2 Introductions
1.3 Explanation of Hand Signals
1.4 Introduction of Agenda - report backs, old business, new business, announcements, chant, adjournment, soapbox

2. Report Backs

2.1 April
Last night, we kept Livestream up for 15 hours – Chris, with the help of independent media. You just need a smartphone to be able to help - please step up and volunteer. Talk to me if you want to about volunteering.

2.2 Cres - Legal
Twenty-three people were arrested this morning. The police said 21, but that is not true. Russell and Greg were arrested, although not in custody. I was rejected for medical reasons. They insisted on taking me down to Sutter, even though I was fine. I refused treatment and they gave me a ride to my car back at the park. Everyone was released by 2 p.m. today. Seven had additional charges of resisting (they didn’t comply with police orders – passive resistance is now called resisting). The police told one of the reporters there weren’t going to be any arrests and then 40 police showed up. They lied to us.

PoI (Sergeant Valdez): After GA, the police will be giving out flyers of applicable ordinances to remind people what these ordinances are, what the exact verbiage is, and that the ordinances could be enforced at any time.

2.3 Kirk – Youth Outreach Working Group
Membership is up to nine now. They are eager to start, but I am waiting until midterms are over because I want to respect their time to study and put their focus in the right place.

2.4 Sean Thomspon – Direct Action Group
There are a lot of events planned. The next major one is Saturday – Universal Declaration of Human Rights Day. There are flyers and information about it is up on the website. There will be a march at noon and Cindy Sheehan will be speaking at the march destination at 1 p.m. There will be another march later in the day.
Monday is Block the Ports Day. We won’t be blocking the Sacramento port – there is not much business there, so it’s not worth it. Go up to San Francisco or Oakland to support them.

PoI: The San Francisco site says they are going to Oakland. That is where Port Day will take place.
PoI: Monday will be the protest at Clear Channel, KFBK. We’ll give out more information tomorrow.
CQ: Will there be carpools to Oakland?
PoI: I have one, but it’s full.
R: If you want to start a carpool, let me know after the GA.
CQ: Why are ports being blocked?
PoI: There is great information on Occupy Oakland’s website. It explains the port issue thoroughly – why it’s important, which communities are the most affected, etc.
R: This is their second action there, so there will be police and the National Guard. Be prepared to be arrested. I can’t go there, because the 13th is the court date.
PoI (Cres): I’ll get information on the court dates on the website.

2.5 Tiffany – Facilitation Working Group
There are teach-ins on Sunday at 3:00.
The GA this Saturday is at 4:00 p.m. instead of 5:30 p.m. because of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights Day activities.

2.6 Tiffany – Nonviolent Communication Committee
I’m not sure if it will work to hold the regular 3:00 teach-in because of Saturday’s Universal Declaration of Human Rights Day activities. Find me in the park and we’ll figure it out.
.
3. Old Business – None.

4. New Business – None.

5. Announcements

5.1 Russell: I was asked by Steven from Occupy Woodland (he’s also active here and was arrested with us last night) to let you know he’s distributing a petition for state legislation to require the taxation of oil companies and funnel the money directly into education. California is the only state that has no oil excise tax. This is a big deal – it would be billions of dollars. The petition is at the Information Table. Please sign it if you are registered to vote. There are different petitions for different counties – be sure to sign the petition for the county in which you are registered to vote.

5.2 Michele: I am still trying to collect all of the minutes of previous GAs so they can be posted and available for everyone. The ones posted on the “Minutes” forum of the website are the only ones I have been able to run down so far. If you have minutes or know of where any can be located, please contact me at wscrm@aol.com.
F: We’re missing minutes for more than half of the GAs.

5.3 Tiffany: There will be a different facilitator for tomorrow’s GA. David has been to several teach-ins, but this is the first time he will be facilitating, so please help him out.

5.4 Russell (on behalf of Darrell): There is a march tomorrow starting here at 10 a.m. in the park. It is in support of men’s rights in family court.
PoI (Sean Thompson): I am strongly in support of this issue.
.
6. Chant: The people united will never be divided! (louder) The people united will never be divided!! (louder) The people united will never be divided!!!
Adjournment – 6:25 p.m. Next GA is tomorrow at 5:30 p.m.
