General Meeting: Nov. 23, 2011
Intro and Process
Facilitator: Sarah Beth
Minute taker: Anne Brackett
The location of the forms to make motions will be discussed after meeting to determine where people can find them.
Committee and Working Report Backs:
Library committee: Greg. Regular occupiers can check out books after Gregg is familiar with them so he can assure the books will be returned. Suggestion that we move GA closer to tables because too far from library and info tables to keep secure during GA meeting. Issue of security raised about moving meeting over to city hall steps because surveillance cameras there. A volunteer offered extension cords.
Resolutions and Statements: Karen Brnal: Language for outreach and coordinating committee is being created. Coordination working group created Monday night intended to be internal communication committee so that everyone has a voice. (Sarah Beth).
Facilitation working group: Sunday, 3 – 5, teach in.
Education: Matt, UCD in solidarity with Sacramento; having general strike on Friday.
NVC: Tiffany; teachin on sat. at 3; afterwards is committee meeting.
Agenda (“Old Business”):
Matt, march by cannabis dispensaries in protest of loophole they’d like to see closed and asked us if we’d like to join them.
Lukewarms:
Focus should be on larger problems that create smaller problems and there are negative associations with medical marijuana. Too easy for mass media to use against us.
Medical marijuana community does not support individual growing; their support is just for dispensaries. Why not support as individuals but not under the banner of occupy.
The danger here is primary sovereignty of state is being eroded. Dangerous what is happening to constitution.
Not all clubs want to stop growing by individuals. Concerned about losing dispensaries. Form of discrimination against patients, like we would about any other abuse of system.
Illegal drug dealers are a big part of the 1percent.
For full legalization. Also worry that a huge amount of education is needed and media will portray negatively.
The whole point of march is to make dispensaries be under state not federal law. No county law that protects dispensaries. By not writing law, county gets money. About closing a loophole and creating a law that clarifies dispensary’s rights.
Understanding that dispensary is in wrong zone, ex, too close to parks?
Let’s be consistent about whether we’re about first amendment fed rights v. states rights.
MSMedia is going to use banner without asking for fine points. We’ll get smeared by media. If turn on news the headline will be “occupy supports getting high.”
This is really short notice, happening tomorrow, shows weak solidarity.
Matt retracts motion.

New Business (“New Business”):
Grievances Working Group:
April: Resolution to establish official list of grievances. Educational inaccessibility due to high tuition. We should establish a list of grievances. [Note from minutes taker: This next part is almost gibberish. Sorry. It went too fast to do a decent job at recording what was being said. ]Whatsacramento is , work other groups that are not a part of occsac could work to solve one of griev. …just because we work with them but still autonomous. Promotes collaboration without having to endorse, will be voted on sat… take time to talk on sat… this will take hours if we don’t’ understand before sat. …complete list is on website. What would be procedures for bringing before ga? This is to establish a committee to create structure to name grievances.
Sat. at 2 discussion group to understand resolution.
Moving to sat agenda by concensus.
Emergency motion that we have no thanksgiving GA by Tiffany.Motions carries unanimously.
Post thanksgiving meal at 2 on Friday, Potluck. Please let Fago know what you’re bringing.
Announcements
Mary: Food table has to be up before 9 oclock tomorrow. Need help setting up table because large amount of food being delivered. Asking for volunteers needed.
John: friendship park free blankets from 8 to 12. The fact that they are allowing tent camping at Best Buy is inconsistent with arresting people in the park for erecting tents.
Russell: Black Friday, people be here at park at 9 for actions that will take place throughout the afternoon, includingfacepainting. Day of action. Going down to arden mall and k street mall, supporting small business sat, day after black Friday.
If doesn’t exist on line, the online community doesn’t know.
Sac4democracy@hotmail.com Bill Lackemacher does email.
Chuck: Can pr plan a press conference for Friday?
April: general strike is day after tomorrow. Dec 12 Oakland all port strike, all major ports on west coast.
Matt: working on New Year ’s Eve party at capitol.
Correction: General strike at ucd is Monday, Nov. 28.
Nov. 30 at sac state mayor Johnson and Richard Penn (sp?) having forum on higher education, good idea if a lot of people attended, do a mic check?
Karen. Over hundred people attended great panel in Burlingame about occupy. Talking about organizing conference in middle of state, Fresno?, in middle of winter. Thinking it would be a 2 day organizing conference.
Chant: it is my duty to fight, it is my duty to win, we must love and protect one another, we have nothing to lose but our chains.
Adjournment.
